How to verify an ALKC pedigree from abroad

"It has papers" is the cheapest sentence in the puppy market — in any language. Verifying a Brazilian pedigree from your couch takes minutes and filters out nearly every scam. Here is the exact checklist.

By Nasser Michel Umar · Breeder since 2001 · Chapecó, Brazil

A genuine pedigree has a unique registration number, an identifiable issuing registry and a traceable 4-generation genealogy — all checkable before you pay anything, from any country. Our own certificate is public: ALKC no. 249882, issued 24 Nov 2025, verifiable at alkc.org.br. Demand the same transparency from any kennel on Earth.

The ALKC (America Latina Kennel Club) is a genealogical registry operating across Brazil and Latin America; the CBPA (Brazilian German Shepherd Confederation) is breed-specific. Our puppies carry both registrations — double documentation, cross-checkable. For an international buyer, paper verification replaces the kennel visit, so it deserves ten careful minutes.

The remote checklist, step by step

StepWhat to doWhat it proves

2. Check the numberEvery real pedigree carries a unique registration numberNot a generic decorative paper
3. Verify with the registryCheck the number at alkc.org.br or by contacting the registryNumber matches the dog

Red flags that end the conversation

"Papers" with no number shown. The most common scam worldwide. Parents registered, litter not. The puppy has no pedigree of its own and never will. "Pedigree costs extra." Litter registration is the breeder's obligation, already in the price — extra charges usually mean the papers never come. Recorded video instead of live calls. A kennel that cannot show you the dam and puppies live has something to hide. Any one of these alone justifies walking away.

"A pedigree you cannot verify is not a pedigree. It is a printed promise — in Portuguese you cannot read."

What the genealogy tells you about your puppy

Beyond proving the breed, four documented generations reveal the type of dog you are buying: working bloodlines show ancestors from police and sport programs, and consistent breeder selection shows in repeated quality names. In our tree you will find Odin Holly's Land (German bloodline) and M-Killer da Lagoa Grande (police bloodline), with grandparents including Vucab Holly's Land and European ancestors such as Vercingétorix du Val des Hurles Vent — every name registered, every generation traceable.

Once the papers check out, the rest of the remote process — video calls, contract, reservation — follows the roadmap in the international buying guide. The difference between working and show bloodlines, which the genealogy reveals, is covered in Working Line vs Show Line.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I verify a Brazilian ALKC pedigree from another country?

Request the parents' pedigree documents, confirm each has a unique registration number, and verify the number at alkc.org.br or directly with the registry. Then confirm the litter registration linking the puppies to those parents. All of it works remotely.

What is the ALKC?

The America Latina Kennel Club — a genealogical registry operating in Brazil and Latin America that issues pedigrees with unique registration numbers and documented ancestry. Canil Gelbes Wasser puppies also carry CBPA registration, the Brazilian German Shepherd Confederation.

Can a pedigree be faked?

Papers can be forged, which is why you verify the NUMBER with the registry rather than trusting the document's appearance. A forged number fails the registry check immediately.

Is a puppy without pedigree ever worth it?

Not from abroad. Without registration there is no way to verify breed purity, bloodline or the absence of excessive inbreeding — you would be importing an unverifiable claim at full logistics cost.

What does the Gelbes Wasser pedigree show?

A verified 4-generation genealogy under ALKC certificate no. 249882 (issued 24 Nov 2025), combining the German bloodline of Odin Holly's Land with the police bloodline of M-Killer da Lagoa Grande, with ALKC and CBPA registration on every puppy.

Ten minutes of verification protects a decade of companionship — and a kennel that helps you verify is a kennel you can trust.
